Travel Cancellation Insurance * - Questions and Answers 

1. Subscription

You must be a registered PayPal Hong Kong account holder and be a resident in Hong Kong.
You will automatically receive the Terms and Conditions of your policy once registered. If you have not received or have deleted the email, you can reach us through the Contact page.
The Travel Cancellation Protection* covers only you during the trip.

Nevertheless, if the other travellers are also holders of a PayPal Hong Kong account and have activated the Free* Protection, then they will also be covered during their trip. These travellers who have activated the cover can use the same group travel booking receipt to file a claim individually, subject to the policy coverage limits.
The Travel Cancellation Protection* will cover your non-refundable travel expenses booked via PayPal in case you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Example of covered reasons:
- Serious illness/injury of the insured party and his or her travelling companion
- Death of a family member of the insured
- Theft of passport
- New employment contract / Dismissal
- Damage to the Insured's principal residence from fire, flood or similar natural disaster
- Unforeseen traffic jam due to an accident on the way to the airport
- Divorce or separation of the insured party
- Any other cause of force majeure not excluded (see general conditions)
The coverage starts with your date of activation and ends after 12 months of your activation date or upon the first approved claim, whichever is earlier.
Yes. The Travel Cancellation Protection* covers your non-refundable costs (such as air tickets, hotel reservations, Airbnb, car rental, etc.) up to the limit of the policy you have activated, in case you have to cancel your trip for a qualifying reason. Remember that you must be the owner of a PayPal Hong Kong account and activate your protection prior to the reservation of your trip.
No, never. It is totally free*.
*The activation costs for the free Travel Cancellation Protection are covered by PayPal.
This is a group policy that is taken up by PayPal for the benefit of its customers who make travel purchases (such as hotel reservations, air tickets, etc) using its payment services.

2. Claims for reimbursement

Please visit and follow the instructions. Once you have filed your claim, you will receive an acknowledgement email with the details of your claim submission and be notified of your claim result subsequently.

Upon receipt of your claim and all the required documentation, we will finalise claims assessment within 5-7 business days. If your claim is accepted, you will be reimbursed via cheque or bank transfer within the next 5-7 business days.

The Free Travel Cancellation Protection covers just one claim per year up to HK$3,500.
The Free Travel Cancellation Protection has no deductible.
No, there is no limit to the number of times you can file a claim within the policy coverage period. However, you are only entitled to receive one successful claim reimbursement during the policy coverage period.
Documents required include:
- Travel booking confirmation by PayPal
- Your trip itinerary
- Any documentation that supports unforeseen circumstances that led to the cancellation (eg. medical report, proof of relationship)
- Documentary proof of relevant expenses incurred as a result of this trip cancellation, original trip booking and invoice, travel agents’ confirmation of the amount of refund
